Keramikruten "Ceramics trail"
The 2.3 kilometer long Keramikrute in Middelfart combines the experience of ceramic art with harbor atmosphere and city life.
Middelfart is the home of the CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art, which is the Nordic region's largest museum specialising in ceramic arts, crafts and design. It is all this and so much more. It is also a town that is making a real attempt to make ceramic arts accessible to all, every day, all day long.
Middelfart Municipality has therefore collaborated with CLAY to put together “Keramikruten”, a 2.3 kilometre long walk through large scale ceramic art pieces that will both surprise and titillate the senses.
The “Keramikruten” ceramics trail was inaugurated in 2021. The trail is not a “set in stone” attraction but is rather a dynamic process that will evolve year by year, as new pieces are unveiled.
The “Keramikruten” trail will take you through Middelfart’s old harbour, CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art Denmark and its sculpture park, the old town district, Middelfart Church, Middelfart Museum, along the pedestrian street, to Nytorv, the “Kulturøen” island of culture and the open harbour.
You will be guided on your way by blue, green and orange ceramic tiles and stones. We call this “clayfinding”.
There will be a QR code for you to scan at each sculpture you meet along the Keramikruten trail, with a passionate and committed audio description of each piece voiced by one of Denmark’s very best ceramics lecturers, namely Peder Rasmussen, a ceramic artist and the author of books like “Keramikkens Stemme” (“the voice of ceramic art”).
