The Kings Trail - 5km
"The best route I have ever run" – those were the words King Frederik used to describe Middelfart's 5 km route for Royal Run 2026. Experience the route yourself – through town, forest, and along the water.

"The strongest, most courageous, and the most beautiful"
Those were the words King Frederik used to describe the 5 km route through Middelfart at Royal Run 2026. He later noted it was the best route he had ever run at Royal Run. The 5 km route moves across varied terrain – through forest and town.
Where town and nature meet
The King's Route – as we've taken the liberty of calling it – takes you along Havnegade by the waterfront, with Den Nye Lillebæltsbro as your backdrop. From there, up through the old town, where historic houses stand side by side, and past the red facade of CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art. Then the tree canopy closes in around you as you move through Hindsgavl Peninsula. A different kind of quiet settles in.
In the final stretch, you meet the water at Teglgårdsbugt. Boats rest still on the surface. Fænø sits on the horizon. The path leads you up through Teglgårdsparken, where old yellow brick buildings once housed psychiatric patients. Today, you'll find MIND Museum here – telling the stories of local lives and inviting conversation, togetherness, and reflection.
The route ends on Adelgade, Middelfart's pedestrian street, where specialists in the local shops are ready to welcome you – and you can sit down with a cup of coffee at one of the town's cafés.
Five kilometers, two worlds – town and nature as one.
The route is for everyone. You can run or walk it, and it works well for families with children.
Tip: Walk or run the route early in the morning, when the town is quiet – the light over Teglgårdsbugt is something else at that hour.
