Ginger bread town in Middelfart
In the middle of Middelfart lies a town you’ll only find at Christmas. At Middelfart Museum, buildings from Middelfart and the surrounding area are recreated in gingerbread. A tradition that grows year by year.

A town baked from gingerbread dough
You step into Middelfart Museum and meet a town where every house smells of cinnamon and cloves. Roofs, windows and chimneys are shaped from gingerbread dough, baked by children and adults.
Baking gingerbread houses is an old tradition that became especially popular in the 1950s, when many families began making their own houses at home. Middelfart Museum took the idea further, and in 2011 the first Peberkagebyen (Gingerbread Town) opened. Since then it has grown, and today it fills several rooms of the museum at Algade 8.
Get close to the houses and see how locals have recreated well-known buildings from Middelfart and the surrounding area. Once you’ve seen the whole town, you can vote for your favourites in four categories. When the exhibition period ends, the votes are counted and the winners announced.
Peberkagebyen sits in the heart of Middelfart, just a few minutes’ walk from the harbour and the old town. Round off your visit with a cup of coffee at the museum café, Café Inga, and take the inspiration home to keep baking. Here’s your chance to add another tradition to December.
