Two Bridges — One Story
Melfar "the middle crossing" was the name, when you crossed the strait. Now two bridges span Lillebælt. The old from 1935 ties Jutland and Fune together with steel and concrete. The new from 1970 floats as a suspension bridge. Together, they shape the silhouette of the town.

Melfar
The Old Lillebælt Bridge was inaugurated on May 14, 1935. That same day, DSB's red express train ran for the first time and cut the ribbon.
Today, you can experience the strait from 60 meters up on the great steel structure with Bridgewalking.
The New Lillebælt Bridge was inaugurated in 1970 and took over much of the road traffic from the Old Lillebælt Bridge. The architect behind the bridge, Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, designed it in collaboration with Peter Hvidt.
