Discover the Hinterland: Take a short trip and experience something completely different

Nature, farm shops, museums and cafes
You don't have to drive far from Middelfart city before the landscape tells a completely different story. The cliff at Strib hides torpedo garages from the war, deep in layers of soil that are millions of years old. A few kilometers away, at Gamborg Fjord, legend has it that the water at Svinø once turned reddish from the blood of porpoises when they were chased from land, and at Båring Strand an old legend whispers about the giant Ranke, who must ride through the night for eternity when a storm hits the bay.
What these experiences have in common is that you don't have to go far to find them, and that they don't look like the one you just left behind.
In Strib, you find traces of history. Traces from the Germans' torpedo garages, traces from a livelihood on the sea, and traces from the earth and the life in Lillebælt that has changed over millions of years.
Legend has it that the water near Svinø carries a reddish hue from the blood of porpoises. In Gamborg, people hunted porpoises until the late 1800s. Today, the area is quieter and home to rich birdlife.
Ejby Mose is one of Fyn's largest wetlands. Here you'll find 245 registered plant species, the marsh harrier, and the nightingale. Nature wraps around you as you walk the trails through this wet landscape.
Brænde Ådal cuts through the landscape. The water runs from the mill and down through the fish ladder. Nature here has been restored, and wildlife moves freely. In May and June, protected orchids bloom and if you're lucky, you might spot a kingfisher.
Humlemagasinet in Harndrup is the cultural heart of the area, with museums and remarkable gardens. The history holds dark fates, but today the place is peaceful. In Brenderup, you can also visit specialty shops and farm stores.
Legend has it that the giant Ranke lies buried at Båring Strand. When storms roll in, they say you can hear him riding through the night. But when the sun is out, the area is calm and open for cultural walks.
