The Hindsgavl Peninsula
In 1848, H.C. Andersen wrote: "At one point in the garden there, you have the most beautiful view in Funen – I almost believe in all of Denmark." He was talking about the Hindsgavl Peninsula.

The green headland
Nature and town blend almost seamlessly – walk from the main street to a forest path in minutes.
The peninsula reaches into the belt, right in the heart of Naturpark Lillebælt. 165 hectares of deer park, open meadows, beech forest, and coast. Deer’s graze between the trees, keeping the landscape open as it has been for centuries.
The peninsula belonged to Hindsgavl Estate until 1921, when Middelfart Municipality bought it. Today it's open to everyone. In autumn, the roar of rutting stags fills the forest. Every July, musicians and audiences gather for Hindsgavl Festival with Lillebælt as the backdrop. At Naturcenter Hindsgavl you'll find a nature playground, fire pits, and shelters. Hiking routes range from 1.6 to 9.5 km.
Tip: Walk the Deer Trail early in the morning – the animals are most active at dawn.
