Follow the ceramic tiles through Middelfart

Blue, green and yellow tiles lead you from stone to stone along the harbour, through the old town and past Nytorv. The method is called clayfinding, and it’s your entry point to the Ceramic Route: a 2.3-kilometre walk among large-scale ceramic works.

The route connects CLAY Museum of Ceramic Art, Northern Europe’s largest specialist museum for ceramic art, craft and design, with the Old Harbour, Sankt Nicolai Church in Middelfart, Middelfart Museum, the pedestrian street and KulturØen.
In the sculpture park at CLAY you’ll find 17 works by Danish and international artists, placed in dialogue with the Little Belt and the surrounding nature.

At each sculpture you can scan a QR code and listen to ceramicist Peder Rasmussen, author of the book “Keramikkens Stemme” (“The Voice of Ceramics”), telling the story of the work and the technique behind it. The

Ceramic Route opened in 2021 and continues to develop, with new works added year by year, so the route changes along with the town.

The walk suits you if you want to combine art with harbour atmosphere and town life – alone, as a couple, or with friends. Start at CLAY or on Nytorv and walk at your own pace.
