Humlemagasinet - several cultural experiences in one place
Humlemagasinet – a bouquet of cultural experiences
Humlemagasinet in Harndrup offers a rich bouquet of experiences: exhibitions, three museums and over 20 themed gardens spread across 5 hectares of land.
Exhibition:
In 2017, the museum presented a cultural-historical exhibition about the Danish West Indies, marking the 100th anniversary of the islands’ transfer to the United States.
Museums:
One of the museums is dedicated to local-born poet and songwriter Sigfred Pedersen, known for Danish classics like “Katinka, Katinka, open the window” and “Now Spring Comes to Nyhavn”.
The unique porcelain doll collection features 137 handcrafted dolls, each portraying a royal or historical figure in accurately recreated costumes.
The Hop Museum shares the story of the house and its role in local history over more than a century.
Gardens:
Outdoors, visitors can stroll through a variety of beautiful themed gardens: the largest hop garden on Funen, a traditional apple orchard, an English rose garden, the Queen Ingrid Garden, a classic country garden, and more than 1,000 dahlia varieties.
Scattered throughout the grounds, you’ll find gazebos and seating areas perfect for enjoying your packed lunch or coffee.
Café:
You can also enjoy a visit to the cozy café inside the historic private rooms of the house – famous for serving the delightful Princess Marie layer cake.
In 2012, Queen Margrethe of Denmark visited Humlemagasinet during her summer tour, where she explored the doll museum, the historical exhibition on her grandfather King Christian X, and the Queen Ingrid Garden.
